The Oregon Chapter of IAPP meeting was held at the Gresham City Hall. There were 21 National members and 28 Guests for a total of 49 in attendance.

Mike Boyle, Oregon Chapter President opened the meeting at 9:10 am by welcoming and thanking the attendees for coming. He thanked Terrie Houser with the City of Gresham for sponsoring the meeting site. He introduced our special guest, Jennifer Douglas, National Chapter Manager, and invited everyone to chat with her at the break. Mike reminded everyone that Officer Elections would be held later in the meeting.

Mike then introduced Pat Bowton who presented “Accounts Payable In the 21st Century and Invoicing Over The Internet” originally presented by Intel and IBM.

After the presentation Mike asked how many people thought, how this could change my job? It’s a proven fact these technology changes are migrating job responsibilities. It is requiring us to be experts in import/export, web development and this is good because we are getting out of the sweat shop business. People need to keep up with the change and it will prove to be a benefit for everyone.

Patti, Cheryl, Pat
Phyllis Kaylor

Mike introduced Phyllis Kaylor with PeaceHealth who presented “Developing and Implementing Epayables Project” originally presented by FedEx.

Mike talked about EFT payments & remittance and then asked anyone that is currently doing this to please stand up – and introduce themselves. He asked about web vendor services, and shared that CNF is going live in the next 60 days.

Mike then Introduced Jennifer Douglas who has been with the C.O. for 6 years and was Nelda Barkley’s first employee, hired in March 1995. The organization now is Nelda Barkley the Executive Director, Jennifer Douglas the Local Chapter Manager and Office Manager and Cathi Roosa is the Certification Manager, plus 13 staff members. The IAPP was founded on networking and sharing information with others, your successes and failures. This is all valuable information that needs to be shared.  Jennifer Douglas

The 2001 11th Annual IAPP Conference had 1800 attendees and 66 exhibitors. The Conference in 2002 is May 5 – 9th at Disney Coronado Springs, in 2003 it will be held in Seattle Washington and in 2004 it will be back at Disney Coronado Springs.

We have over 40 plus chapters that are active and successful. Jennifer will be visiting some new areas and starting new chapters. Mike Boyle has gone above and beyond the call of duty as Chapter President, Joe Schoen has done a great job getting the 2nd chapter web site up and running and thanks to Pat Bowton for getting the door prizes and minutes done. This is a great turnout today, this chapter has grown from around 40 members with National to 84 members currently. Mike has brought in a lot of big speakers so you now have a great base to build from,  and by adding roundtables everyone in the chapter can benefit from the networking. National is implementing an awards program for local chapters and Chapter Officers starting with the 2002 conference.  You all have a lot to be proud of here and you need to help your chapter. At 10:45 we had a 10 minute break.

Mike then introduced Patti Boyd of Nike who did her presentation on “Detecting And Preventing Fraud In Accounts Payable” originally presented by Broenic.

Mike introduced the next presenter, Cheryl Main of Fred Meyer. Her presentation was on “Accounts Payable Disaster Planning” originally presented by Morgan Stanley Dean Witter.

Mike asked for a round of applause for all the presenters and thanked them for their efforts.

Before officer elections began Jennifer informed the attendees that the current officers will help them move into the new role of the chapter officers and National is there to support them as well. National will provide who has attended the annual forum and/or given workshops. In addition, National is implementing a speaker program and a list of vendors that are willing to bring in speakers to your meetings.

What is in it for you to be an officer? You earn 5 credits toward your CAPP re-certification for serving as an officer, 4 credits for serving on a committee and for each local chapter meeting that you attend you earn 2 credits.
