The Oregon Chapter is affiliated with IAPP but is an independent organization.
The IAPP, Oregon chapter Web corporate sponsors, and Oregon chapter webmaster bear no responsibility for the content of this page.

The chapter meeting was held at the Vancouver office of Consolidated Freightways. There were 23 National members and 33 guests for a total of 56 in attendance.

Mike Boyle, Oregon Chapter President opened the meeting and welcomed the attendees. He encouraged continued networking at the break. He introduced himself and the other board members, Joyce Larkins--Vice President and Cheryl Main--Secretary.

Mike also introduced committee members for our topic and membership committees:

Topic committee:
Dennis Offield
Joanie Johnston
Mark Fivecoat
Membership committee:
Lisa Paullin-Anzaldua
Pat Gladney
Vicki Koch (not in attendance)

Mike shared general comments about the events of September and the condition of the economy. He announced that his group would not be opening mail. They will be required to use gloves and be trained on how to use precautions to avoid biohazards in the mail. He had handouts on the FBI guidelines on dangerous mail - previously printed in The Oregonian.

Mike announced some changes on the Oregon chapter's web site. It is easier to use with meetings organized by topics etc and he encouraged anyone with web site ideas to contact him.

Mike thanked our sponsors - ReadSoft who provided the continental breakfast and will also be doing a presentation today. He thanked Consolidated Freightways for the use of the facilities. He announced that he had locations for the coming year's meetings.

Dane Meuler, Vice President of Integra Information Technologies was introduced and did a presentation titled Imaging in A/P - Doing More with Less.

After Dane' presentation, Mike introduced Joyce Larkins who shared a few words about our National organization. She shared with us that the forum next year will be in April in Orlando (now scheduled in May). The following year (2003) it will be in Seattle which will be good for our local chapter. She hopes to link up with the Seattle chapter to have a joint meeting and do more networking. She stated that National works for us all the time and encouraged membership in the national organization. Pat Bowton, formerly the Oregon chapter secretary, is chairperson of the IAPP's Communication Committee which was created this year at the national level. IAPP is forming a technology committee soon - information to follow.

Joyce stated that on November 15th & 16th there is a training session scheduled in Orlando to write test questions for the CAPP. People that have passed the test and are certified will attend the session and learn to write questions for the next exam. The future exams will always be the first day of the forum rather than like this year when it was the last day. That made it more difficult for those taking the test to enjoy the entire forum since they were studying. Joyce asked Pat Bowton to share any information from her committee with us.

Pat indicated that IAPP is working on upgrading their web site. This should be upgraded in the next month or two. The Communication Committee was formed to assure integrity of information shared with members. This includes emails, letters, newsletter, forum brochure, study exam, CAPP exam etc. All committee members are in place and will be meeting in November in Orlando. Two members are from the West Coast and five from central US and East Coast so they are looking forward to meeting face to face and working together.

Joyce stated that as a member of IAPP you could in on the National site, get a password and maneuver around the web site and find information to help you and your group. Another example Joyce gave of support by the National was the visit in June by Jennifer Douglas. She came to support our chapter and gave suggestions for improvements.

After the break, Mike introduced Alan Aegerter of ReadSoft who presented Automated Data Capture For Invoices.

After Alan's presentation, Mike re-introduced Dane Meuler who did a presentation originally given by Pam Miller of BMC West Corporation on their imaging solution. The presentation was titled Streamlining A/P Processes with Imaging and Workflow.

Mike led the group in a round of applause thanking our presenters and speakers. Mike asked any first time attendees to introduce themselves and welcomed them to our meeting.

Mike announced that our January meeting would be sponsored by Howard Schultz and hosted by Nike and the April meeting will be sponsored by Profit Recovery Group and hosted by Fred Meyer. InFocus Systems have volunteered to host a meeting which may be the June meeting.

Mike thanked donors of door prizes - which have ranged from t-shirts up to airfare to Disneyland and asked anyone interested in donating door prizes to see Cheryl Main. He asked anyone with questions or issues for the board or committee members to see us after this meeting, as we would be meeting immediately after. Mike asked that anyone that needed credit for CAPP or CPA to sign in on the sheet that Joyce Larkins has. Allan Aegerter of ReadSoft drew names for door prizes:
